Month Without Plastic

Chris Jeavens is writing a blog this month for the BBC about her challenge to live for 31 days without using any plastic, including packaging, garbage bags, and diapers. It's kind of surprising how many things involve plastic, and in ways that you wouldn't think of at first. If you want to check it out, you can find the blog here.

Michael Pollan at P.S. 1

If you are going to be around Friday evening and are looking for something to do, Michael Pollan is going to be speaking at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City. He is the author of several books about plant and food, like The Botany of Desire, The Omnivore's Dilemma, and In the Defense of Food. The lecture is titled "Taking the Plant's Point of View," and it is sponsored by the Horticultural Society of New York. Doors open at 7 and the suggested donation is $5. If you want to look around beforehand, the art center is open until 6 and they have an exhibit called Public Farm 1 in the courtyard that is an urban farm and landscaping design made out of sustainable and recyclable materials that will be up until September 15. You can check out the website for the Center here and Michael Pollan's website here.
