WORM COMPOST - INFORMATIONAL SESSION FRIDAY AT 4 IN GREENBOROUGH

Hey everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the snow :)

The second-wave of wormshops is starting this
Friday, February 12th, at 4:00 PM in the Greenborough house basement!

Greenborough is located at 604 114th St, between Broadway and Riverside.

This will be an informational session, for anyone who is interesting in having a worm composting bin, and/or wants to learn more about worm composting in general!

Job Opportunity!

Markets and Community Outreach Coordinator
The Markets and Outreach Coordinator will work as part of the East New York
Farms! Project, a group of diverse gardens, vendors, farmers, and youth working
together to strengthen our community through gardens, fresh food, and farmers
markets. The East New York Farmers Market is one of the largest youth and
community-led markets in the country and has been in operation for 11 years.
ENYFarms! is a project of the United Community Centers, Inc. The Markets and
Outreach Coordinator is an employee of the United Community Centers and is
supervised by the East New York Farms! Project Director.

Responsibilities:
Promote local foods, local economy, and community by creating friendly,
welcoming, and productive markets and empowering our neighbors to improve their
health
To achieve this, the market manager will:
• Manage all aspects of market operations, including permitting and
registration, maintaining supplies, event planning, and daily operations
including set up, collecting fees, and enforcing rules
• Recruit, register, and provide assistance & training to vendors
• Encourage and track vendor meeting attendance and volunteering
• Track and analyze market data, including sales and fees collected
• Outreach to and educate community members at the market and at off-site
events, including flyering, sending mailings, and coordinating cooking
demonstrations
• Organize and facilitate market meetings, including taking attendance
and notes
• Design, produce, and distribute materials to promote the market and
healthy eating - *in 2010 this will include producing a cookbook *
• Develop opportunities for expanding access to healthy food in East New
York, including working with restaurants and local stores interested in buying
local produce
• Coordinate a small CSA vegetable share program
• Supervise two youth interns – Market intern and CSA intern – and
encourage them to take leadership in promoting local foods and local economy

Qualifications:
- Friendly and out-going
- Well organized
- Takes initiative and works well independently, and also works well as
part of a team
- Able to work Tuesday to Saturday from March to November, and Mon –
Fri from December – February
- Able to work some evenings
- Energetic and willing to work outside during all weather
- Computer literate
- Knowledge of and interest in community health
- Comfortable working with people of all ages – youth, adults, and
seniors
- Special consideration will be given to applicants who are residents of
East New York and are bilingual (English/Spanish)

Compensation
This is a full time position, and includes medical and dental benefits and paid
vacation.
Salary range is $30,000 - $33,000/year, based on experience.
